Fangirl Spotlight: Interview with Former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams

Please scroll to the bottom of the post to watch the interview.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a complete and total fangirl of former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams.

The first time I got to meet her in person was at a Planned Parenthood event when my friend Jessica Byrd was walking her around and introducing her to people. Jessica brought Leader Abrams over to me and I immediately embarrassed myself by blurting out some gibberish that essentially was me telling her how much I love her and that she inspires me to do more in politics as a Black woman. Leader Abrams was beyond kind and wrote her personal cell phone number and email address on the back of her card and told me to reach out to her at anytime. I still have Leader Abrams card pinned to my bulletin board at work and look at it for inspiration and strength for when I am having a hard day.

Currently Leader Abrams is running for governor of Georgia. A Black woman has never been elected to governor in the United States (yes, you read the right, NEVER). Leader Abrams is running a groundbreaking campaign that could put her in history books. Back in February I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Leader Abrams during the first ever Power Rising Summit in Atlanta, GA at which she was one of the keynote speakers. We talked about her campaign, voting rights, and how people can become involved in their community.

To learn more about Leader Abrams and her campaign for governor, visit staceyabrams.com and don’t forget to by her now book Minority Leader: How to Lead from the Outside and Make Real Change, being released on April 24, 2018. Please consider purchasing it from a woman or minority-owned bookstore.
