Welcome to The Brown Girls Guide to Politics!

The idea to create The BGG community came to me in early 2018. After 15 years in professional politics, and 10 years of living in DC, it dawned on me that there was no place for women of color that were interested in politics to go to get advice on how to get involved in politics, receive news about how politics impacts women of color or find out about amazing women of color running for elected office.

The BGG was created to help fill this void. I have come together with other phenomenal women of color in politics from across the country to share advice, tools, and resources that have helped us along the way. The reality is that nobody wakes up like this, and politics is different for women of color,  and we want to share what we have learned with other women of color to lift them up and empower them throughout their political journey. At the end of the day, I want to see more Black, Brown, and Indigenous women in politics - and I hope The BGG will be a resource for this.

If you are a woman of color that wants to make a career in politics, wants to support women of color in politics, or just like politics, we hope that you will find this site and the podcast useful. We hope that you can find inspiration in the stories that we share. That you can relate to our struggles and how we have overcome them. That you will be inspired to become more politically and civically engaged in your communities to impact change.
