51ST Anniversary of Roe V. Wade





51 years ago, on January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court issued a landmark decision in Roe v. Wade, protecting a woman’s constitutional right to choose. ○ The case reaffirmed basic principles of equality, reinforced the fundamental right to privacy, and enabled women in this country to make deeply personal decisions free from political interference


A Wall Street Journal-NORC poll from the fall of 2023 shows Americans’ support for abortion access is at one of the highest levels on record since the 1970s.

● In a USA Today/Suffolk University poll from last June, three in four respondents said abortion would be an important issue for them in this year’s election.

● An NBC News poll conducted in June 2023 found that 61% of voters disapprove of the Supreme Court overturning Roe, including 80% of female voters ages 18-49 and 60% of independents.

● According to a Navigator poll, by more than a two-to-one margin (51% to 22%), battleground voters trust Democrats more than Republicans on abortion, including among independents by a 32-point margin.

● A USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll found that 80% of respondents oppose a federal ban on abortion, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents.

● A poll from Data For Progress showed that a majority of U.S. adults support access to abortion medication
